And ricing for that matter, or any modding at all... My personal mantra is, if you're gonna mod it make sure it can be just as easily brought back to stock form.
Edit: And as was brought to my attention, the second option is, if you're not gonna ever sell it, turn it into a sleeper. Case in point:

I'm in the stock, cleanly modded/factory looking, or go all out school of thought.

hellastock means nothing if you plan to never sell.

When I complete my time machine, I'm going back, buying a new CRX Si, and keeping it stock. I will be the richest man alive when I sell it.

In that case, my second mantra is, if you don't plan to sell it, make it a sleeper. Like so:
Notice the stock OEM wheels and stock looking ride height, the only thing giving it away is the exhaust note, which is still fairly mild for a V8.

I think I own the only adult owned, stock, 2003 Evo left in the country. I expect the Smithsonian to come calling wanting it for their collection.

Nah, that's boring. Money is boring.
I'm not a fan of stance, but this argument is going to fall on deaf ears*.
If resale truly is everything, then I hear Prius' hold their value quite well.
*most car enthusiasts, if given the opportunity, will intentionally spend more than they need to on a car that is most likely more expensive to run and maintain than necessary just because they like that car in particular. Mental.

I'm gonna buy S13's and AE86's and make more money than you

You're right, but the argument against stance doesn't need to be used on people who think like that because they won't stance. It does need to be used against the people who do stance, and I'm sorry, we're not supposed to say it here on Oppo, but they're just not car enthusiasts, any more than people who collect garage queens are, or people who put cars in art galleries.

I disagree with both of your mantras.
Mine is: My car. I do what I want.

I take a more liberal (literal as well) attitude towards who's an enthusiast and who isn't.
Basically, if someone gets enthusiastic about their car (or anyone else's), then they're a car enthusiast. Simple.
They might not be an enthusiast I agree with, they may even be an enthusiast I despise, but they're still an enthusiast.
The very fact that people spend money and effort stancing their cars (and then doing it again afterwards, despite the negligible resale value of their car afterwards), suggests that they too don't really give a toss about money.
If the argument worked, people would stop doing it. It's entirely a taste thing though, so they don't :)

You're wrong. It's MY car, and I do what I want.

They are just cars. You were eaten a live in depreciation simply owning the thing. The reasons I hate stance isn't because it is modification or impacts vehicle value, but because it doesn't even know what it is and most of the examples are purely negative changes. If you are changing something that has a purpose like a car, it should be to enhance something it does. If that happens to be pulling something, enhance it's pulling capability. If it's going fast, make it faster. Making it worse in every way is illogical.

I'm not a fan of stance, but I wholeheartedly agree with people being car people.
I'd rather see streets full of hellaflush stanced pieces of shit than a world full of beige Camrys

Everything I do to my car is either reversible or when I paint a part (not a big fan of chrome on my cars) I buy the part from RockAuto or through a forum and paint it then keep the original in a box in the garage. If I ever want to sell the car I have all the original parts, which as an added bonus will be in excellent condition.

I can't call anyone a car enthusiast who makes a car less of a car than it was before they got their hands on it. They may be an enthusiast when it comes to some kind of fashion involving things that look a lot like cars, but not when it comes to the cars themselves.
Still, it involves wheels and an engine, so they're not all bad. The whole argument reminds me of this:
